Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about plant availability, sizes, delivery, payment, returns, dormancy and international orders.

Plants & availability

Are the plants in the photos the ones I will receive?

Each product page says which applies. Where it states “exact plant”, the photos show that individual specimen. Otherwise the photos represent the batch, and individual plants will vary slightly in shape and size within the stated measurements.

How are plant sizes measured?

Height is measured from the soil surface to the highest growth point. Caudex diameter is measured at the widest point. Pot size is the inside diameter at the rim. We only list measurements we have taken.

What is the difference between seed-grown, cuttings and bare-root plants?

Seed-grown plants are raised from seed and usually develop the most natural caudex shape. Rooted cuttings are grown from a piece of a parent plant. Bare-root means the plant is shipped without its pot and soil to reduce weight and the risk of rot in transit; it should be potted on arrival.

A plant is sold out. Will it come back?

Many specimens are one-offs. For species we propagate or restock, contact us and we will let you know if more become available.

Delivery & tracking

Where do you deliver?

We currently deliver within South Africa. Delivery costs are calculated at checkout from your address before you pay. See our Shipping Policy.

How long does dispatch take?

Orders are dispatched within [Dispatch time — to be confirmed]. Live plants are dispatched on [Dispatch weekdays — to be confirmed] so they do not sit in a depot over a weekend.

How do I track my order?

When your order is dispatched you will receive an email with the courier name and a tracking reference where the courier provides one. If you have not received it, contact us with your order number.

Payment

Which payment methods do you accept?

The payment options available are shown at checkout. Card payments are processed by our payment provider — we never see or store your full card number.

Arrival, returns & refunds

What if my plant arrives damaged?

Photograph the plant and packaging and contact us within [Reporting window (hours) — to be confirmed] hours of delivery. See Returns & Refunds.

Why has my plant dropped its leaves?

Many Pachypodiums and caudiciforms are deciduous and drop leaves in their dormant season, or briefly after the stress of transit. A firm caudex and stem is the best sign of health. Keep the plant bright and do not overwater while it settles.

Care

How often should I water?

It depends on the species and the season. Summer-growers such as most Pachypodiums want water in the warm months and a dry rest in winter; winter-growers such as Dioscorea elephantipes are the reverse. Start with our Plant Care Guide.

International orders

Do you ship outside South Africa?

Not at present. All Pachypodium species and many other caudiciforms are listed by CITES, and export usually requires CITES permits, a phytosanitary certificate and the importing country’s permits. We will only offer international delivery for specific items once that documentation process is in place. You are welcome to enquire.

Can I import plants from you into my country?

Import rules vary by country and species. Please check your national plant-health and CITES authority before enquiring; we cannot arrange delivery where the required permits are not in place.
